2019 – Year of the Business?

Could 2019 be the year when you decide to take the plunge?  Have you always wanted to work for yourself? Have you instead spent years wishing whilst settling for the salary with the safety of the monthly pay packet?

There has never been a better time to take the plunge and strike out on your own. Make your own way in the world of work and enjoy the challenges and rewards of being your own boss.

There were 5.4 million micro businesses in the UK in 2018 accounting for 96% of all businesses.  5.4 million brave souls who have taken the step to self employment. And a micro business can be defined as any business employing up to 9 employees. So not the teeny tiny part time business you might imagine.

The turnover of these micro businesses in 2018 was £808 billion. £808 BILLION! *

Astounding statistics which prove that we Brits have evolved from a nation of shop-keepers into a nation of successful business owners.

So…are you going to join us?

According to these statistics the number of new businesses in the north east of England * is significantly lower than in other areas of the UK.

My experience however is that I am increasingly developing website for women who are taking the plunge and starting their own businesses.  Women who have arrived at this decision through a combination of skills, training and life events.  Running a business can fit in very well for those with families. And those with ambition.

Women like us who work all hours and want to enjoy our work.

Business owners  like us who are prepared to sacrifice the 9 to 5 in order to manage, build and grow our own businesses.  People who have what it takes.

Don’t get me wrong. I have completely some great websites for male business owners.  And I work well with people regardless of gender.  I just really enjoy seeing people who have great ideas have those ideas come to life as a successful business.

Throughout October and November 2018 I completed websites for businesses as diverse as an acupuncturist, a craft studio deep deep in the Yorshire Dales and a physiotherapist.  All being run by women.

Sharon from Shen Holistics has run her very own highly successful practice for several years. Sharon is a highly experienced acupuncturist, hypnotherapist and specialist practitioner in holistic therapies…plus she is so lovely.

I was introduced to Sharon through a mutual friend and local business woman and Sharon asked me to help re-design her website which she had been managing herself.

Redesigning the site allowed Sharon’s excellent blogging skills to really shine and her careful attention to creating interesting content sees her site high in google rankings.
