I have lived in Teesdale for over 20 years and as a child and young adult spent many weekends walking, bird-watching, eating and drinking in the area.
When I started my business in 2016 I discovered quite quickly that Teesdale businesses, especially those working in the tourism industry, were under-represented. I speak every day with business owners in Teesdale but when I travelled just a very short way south found that many had no idea where Teesdale was.
They hadn’t heard of Raby Castle, or Low Force had no idea of the beautiful river Tees and it’s tributaries of Baldersdale, Lunedale and the River Greta.. Sadly, those I spoke with had not heard of High Force.
An idea for a website began. A directory website with businesses paying for an entry and me designing a multi-media webpage for them. A synopsis of each business along with a map, contact details, product and service information, images, video and details of opening times.

And over the period of a couple of years I worked on my business plan and started honing my ideas.
The idea became two websites: Made in Teesdale, to showcase the fine producers of the dale; and Visit Teesdale, promoting the dale as a tourist destination. Defining it. Giving Teesdale back it’s identity.
Made in Teesdale was launched in February 2020 with Visit Teesdale following shortly after.
